I chose to study massage therapy to learn new ways to tend to our body’s needs, and to help others move towards a more embodied self.

What were you doing before pursuing RMT?

I studied Biology at Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec, and competed as a U Sports athlete. My background is in strength-based sports, and I’m currently an Olympic weightlifter at the national level. Ranked top 5 within my weight class in the country. I’m currently ranked 16th among all male lifters in Canada.

Why do you want to be an RMT?

I actually injured myself just before my first Weightlifting Nationals, and my coach’s wife—who’s a VCMT alum—helped me recover enough to place 9th. Her care and expertise inspired me to follow in her footsteps and led me to a career connected to the sport I love, and to athletes who need the same kind of support I received.
I want to help others chase their goals by supporting their recovery and educating them on how to live with less pain. I believe setbacks and injuries are opportunities to grow stronger. With the right support and mindset, you’ll never fail. Always aim for the stars—if you fall short, you’ll land on the moon.

How do you like to spend your time outside of work/school?

If I have any time outside of studying and training, I enjoy learning about things that interest me. What were you doing before pursuing RMT? Why do you want to be an RMT?

My decision to pursue massage therapy comes from my own experience with injury and living with ulcerative colitis. For several years I was largely bedridden, which took away many of the activities I loved and showed me how difficult it can be when your body limits your life. That experience inspired me to become an RMT so I can help others reduce pain, improve movement, and get back to doing the things they love.

Why do you want to be an RMT?

After having my first massage by an RMT, I immediately started the process of becoming an RMT. Being an RMT speaks to me on more levels than I ever could have imagined a career could have. I’ve always found a lot of gratification in helping people when they’re stuck. I want to have an impact on how people go through life. Once I graduate from VCMT, my skill set as an RMT will be the mechanism through which I make that change on people’s day to day lives.

How do you like to spend your time outside of work/school?

I like wood working quite a lot, as of now, April 2025, I’m making a cabinet. I’m moving to Port Coquitlam where I won’t have access to my tools anymore however.
I spend a lot of time in the gym. Not necessarily just working out though, I find myself talking to other gym goers quite a lot. I think the gym’s a good social experience on top of being a fun way to kill an hour or two.
I look forward to enjoying the city while I’m in school. Coming from Chilliwack, Vancouver has been a really fun experience for me so far.

What is your favourite thing about VCMT?

I think VCMT did an excellent job curating the cohort. I like all my class mates. I think if you booked a massage with anyone in my class you would be hard pressed to dislike them.
That doesn’t happen by chance. I think the school did an incredible job selecting students, and I’m glad I can be considered part of that.

Massage therapy brings all of that together into something meaningful and healing.

What were you doing before pursuing RMT?

Before pursuing massage therapy, I spent 5 years coaching artistic gymnastics after having done gymnastics for 12 years myself. I’ve spent this time coaching kids between the ages of 1-16, teaching foundational gymnastics skills, bodily awareness, and the importance of moving the body in a fun, safe, way!

Why do you want to be an RMT?

I chose to pursue massage because being an athlete that’s experienced my own fair share of injuries has shown me the immense value of rehabilitation, and fostered a passion for movement that ultimately led me here! The idea of having a direct impact on the improvement of someone’s life through one-on-one care is incredibly rewarding, and having the ability to enhance the joy of movement in others has always been very meaningful for me.

How do you like to spend your time outside of work/school?

Outside of the classroom/workplace, I can often be found upside down in the gymnastics gym. I find a lot of joy from activity and reaching new limits in what the body can do! When it comes to relaxation, I enjoy crocheting with a good TV show in the background. Whether I’m making a sweater for myself (or for one of my beloved cats,) it’s a great way for myself to unwind and express creativity.

What is your favourite thing about VCMT?

Besides the fruit bowl, my favourite thing about VCMT is the atmosphere created between students and staff. It truly makes such an intensive program a million times easier. The highlight of my school day is always walking along the ocean with my classmates on break, spotting seals and sea critters, and chatting about life! The community here is excellent and definitely makes for a more enjoyable experience.

What were you doing before pursuing RMT?

I worked in veterinary medicine and later moved into the fitness and wellness industry. I became a yoga instructor and eventually worked as a lead instructor and manager at a local fitness studio, where I supported people in building strength, confidence, and body awareness. These experiences showed me how powerful encouragement, movement, and a supportive environment can be in helping people feel their best.

Why do you want to be an RMT?

I have always been fascinated by the human body and passionate about helping others feel better. Through my experiences in yoga, fitness, and working with animals, I saw how powerful caring touch and a calm, supportive environment can be in helping people relax and heal. Becoming an RMT allows me to combine my love of anatomy, movement, and connection while creating a space where clients feel comfortable, heard, and supported in their care. As a student therapist, I am excited to continue learning while providing thoughtful and attentive care to every person I work with.

How do you like to spend your time outside of work/school?

Some of my hobbies include practicing yoga, reading, and cooking or baking homemade meals. I love spending time outdoors camping or being near the water, and I also enjoy riding motorcycles. Riding has reminded me how vulnerable it can feel to try something new or step outside your comfort zone, and that experience has helped me develop patience and empathy for others when they are navigating something unfamiliar. I also really value spending quality time with my family and my fiancé, and I try to bring that same warmth, kindness, and supportive energy into the way I connect with my clients so they feel comfortable, supported, and at ease during their treatment.

What is your favourite thing about VCMT?

My favourite thing about VCMT is definitely my cohort and the amazing teachers. I feel really lucky to be surrounded by such supportive and fun classmates who encourage each other and make the learning environment positive and collaborative. The teachers are also incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about what they do, and they genuinely care about helping us grow into confident and skilled therapists.

What were you doing before pursuing RMT?

Before pursuing registered massage therapy I was a supervisor at Starbucks! I’ve been there for almost 4 years now, and have worked in the hospitality industry for around 8.

Why do you want to be an RMT?

The reason I want to be an RMT is because I have always gravitated towards a career that allows me to help other people. Before I settled on massage therapy, I was interested in psychology but never found anything within it that truly stood out to me. I knew I wanted to support people, but I just didn’t know in what way. I also feared taking work home with me, and knew I wanted to do something where I could have a good work-life balance. Massage therapy had been in the back of my mind and resurfaced after I remembered just how much of an impact my own RMT had on me when I was suffering from chronic headaches. Being able to help people both mentally and physically is something that I find so rewarding, and in that moment it felt like a light bulb lit up in my head. I knew that this was what I wanted to pursue!

How do you like to spend your time outside of work/school?

Outside of work and school I can usually be found spending quality time with my family and friends! I take great importance in having some ‘me time’ whenever I can though, so on days I need to recharge I am often playing video games such as Skyrim (my favourite), Stardew Valley, Pokémon, and Animal Crossing! I try my best to stay active, but video games have always been a huge passion of mine and something I cherish when I need a moment for myself.

What is your favourite thing about VCMT?

My favourite thing about VCMT has to be the supportive, positive cohort I have the pleasure of being in! From day one, we have all been there for one another. I have had the privilege of making new friends and sharing many laughs and smiles with them, and during stressful times having friends to lean on for support is something I am forever grateful for.

What were you doing before pursuing RMT?

I spent 8 years in the supply chain industry, focusing on management and quality assurance. I enjoyed the fast-paced, often chaotic nature of the field, particularly the constant need to think on my feet and solve problems in real time. In a leadership role, I found fulfillment in working with people to develop their careers and support their growth as individuals.

Why do you want to be an RMT?

While my previous role involved working with people one-on-one, I wasn’t always able to fully address their individual needs. Becoming an RMT allows me to continue working closely with people but with a deeper focus on hands-on care, tailoring treatments to each person and making a direct impact on their health and well-being.

How do you like to spend your time outside of work/school?

Outside of school, I enjoy lifting, basketball, running, and cooking, as well as spending quality time with friends and family.

What is your favourite thing about VCMT?

The supportive staff and welcoming culture have made it easier to adjust to the program. I’ve also really appreciated getting to know my cohort, there’s such a wide range of personalities and backgrounds, it’s been both grounding and inspiring to be part of this shared journey. I’ve also been enjoying the learning material and staying engaged, but I know it’s still early days, so I’m staying open-minded and taking things one step at a time.

Outside of school, you’ll usually find me staying active whether it’s playing soccer, going for a run, or lifting weights.

What were you doing before pursuing RMT?

Before RMT, I was studying Sport Science at Douglas College, working as a Medical Office Assistant at a physio clinic, and serving at a brewery. It was a busy mix of school, helping patients, and pouring pints, but it all kept me around people—which I’ve realized is where I work best.

Why do you want to be an RMT?

I want to become an RMT because I love working with people and helping them feel better through a hands-on approach. I’ve always known I wanted something in health and wellness that wasn’t a desk job, and massage was the one profession where I personally felt understood and supported when I was being treated. That stuck with me. I enjoy learning about how the body works and helping clients feel real changes that sometimes feel a bit like magic.

How do you like to spend your time outside of work/school?

Outside of school and work, I’m usually doing something active—working out, running, hiking—or diving into a good fiction book. If I’m not doing that, I’m probably hanging out with friends or family at a board game night, discovering a new food spot, or planning my next place to explore.

What is your favourite thing about VCMT?

My favorite thing about VCMT is the sense of camaraderie between cohorts. The way upper-year students share advice, study tips, and the occasional struggle sympathy makes the whole experience feel supportive. It’s the first school where I’ve really felt like the connections I make will stick.

What were you doing before pursuing RMT?

My background is in teaching and administration. I also sing choral music at a professional level.

Why do you want to be an RMT?

RMT has a lot of overlap with my training as a singer. Both use the body as an instrument in a dynamic and nuanced way. Also, both require a lot of technical and theoretical knowledge that ultimately gets internalized into expertise-based intuition. My goal is to help others feel more at ease in their bodies. I’m particularly interested in how RMT can contribute to positive outcomes for survivors of complex trauma.

How do you like to spend your time outside of work/school?

What were you doing before pursuing RMT?

Before pursuing RMT, I graduated from BCIT with a Marketing Communications Diploma and a Bachelors of Business Administration. Currently, I own a small coffee business (not a cafe, I place espresso machines around downtown Vancouver and I drive around cleaning & maintaining them), very different from a career in massage therapy.

Why do you want to be an RMT?

I want to become an RMT because I love the idea of helping others through touch and wellness. I had never been an active person growing up, and during COVID I felt really trapped mentally and physically. I started to take fitness more seriously and it changed my outlook for the better. That branched into me wanting to help others feel good about their bodies as well. Everybody’s health goals vary, but if you come to me, I’ll do my best to make sure you leave the treatment room better than when you walked in. It’s with that mindset and doing something that needs me to stay healthy so I can make others better, that I’m pursuing this path now. 🙂

How do you like to spend your time outside of work/school?

Outside of work/school, I’m a big horror movie fan. I also love trying new restaurants (feel free to give me suggestions or ask for suggestions), and of course spending time with friends and family whenever I can.

What is your favourite thing about VCMT?

My favourite thing about VCMT is how tight knit the community is. For someone who doesn’t have a lot of medical/anatomy knowledge, this program can feel very daunting. I love the cohort I’m in, I enjoy the variety of classes and instructors, and I can’t imagine myself learning massage therapy anywhere else.

Why do you want to be an RMT?

Some areas I’m interested in learning more about through my internship include: systemic treatment, chronic pain management, palliative care, and pregnancy massage.
